Ponnambalam undergoes a kidney transplant; actor thanks stars for the support

Ponnambalam is popular for his role as a villain in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. He has shared screen space with Vijayakanth, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Arjun Sarja, Sarathkumar, and several others and won a place in the hearts of fans. Ponnambalam was suffering from Kidney disease for over a year, and the actor requested his mates for the financial expenses of his medical treatment. Actor Ponnambalam's niece and short film director Jaganathan (35 years old) volunteered to donate his kidney to the former. Accordingly, he was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Feb 6. After several medical examinations, Jaganathan's kidney was successfully transplanted to Ponnambalam on Feb 10.


Reports suggest that post the surgery, actor Ponnambalam is recovering well, and he has thanked the stars, who helped with his kidney surgery, through his PR Manager.

Ponnambalam earlier issued a shocking statement that he attempted suicide more than 20 times due to his illness and struggle with his financial needs. Then actors like Chiranjeevi, Sarathkumar, Dhanush Kamal Haasan, Arjun, Vijay Sethupathi, Prakash Raj, Prabhu Deva, director KS Ravikumar, and a few others came forward to donate a sum of amount for the medical treatment of Ponnambalam, and the actor then thanked everyone for their support and love.

Ponnambalam, who started his cinema journey as a stuntman, then transformed into an actor with the 1988 Tamil film 'Kaliyugam'. The talented actor then acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films. But his role against Sarathkumar in the 1994 Tamil film 'Nattamai' is the most popular one.
