Film director
Sakthi Chidambaram, who has made films like Charlie Chaplin, Englishkaran, Ennamma Kannu and Kovai Brothers, seems to be in trouble. A
money laundering
case has been filed against the director at the Virugambakkam police station. The Madras High Court has ordered the filinf of the case as Sakthi Chidambaram, who borrowed money from
Sundar, a Velachery resident, failed to return the same despite being granted sufficient time to do it.
Sundar had earlier accused director and producer Shakthi Chidambaram of extorting Rs 24 lakh from him by promising to sell the distribution rights of
Vijay's '
Kaavalan
', which released in 2011. Sakthi Chidambaram had then responded to the allegations levelled against him in Vijay's 'Kaavalan' distribution.
While Sakthi Chidambaram had bought the distribution rights of Vijay's 2011 Pongal release Kaavalan, the film's run was cut short due to the political crisis. He had said that the film secured Rs 5 crore but he sold the satellite rights to a popular network for Rs 5.5 crore. But he has only received only half of the amount from the network, and the case is still ongoing at the court. He promises to hand over the money to Sundar and other borrowers once the remaining amount is settled.
Vijay's 'Kaavalan' case has been going on for years, and Chidambaram had then assured to return the money to Sundar when the case was over and the court verdict came.
