Directed b Obeli N Krishna, 'Pathu Thala' was inspired from the Kannada film 'Mufti' and the cop gangster drama stars Simbu, Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar in lead roles. The film also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon and Santhosh Prathap in important roles. The film was released in theatres on March 30 and the movie has now made a gross of Rs 14 crore in two days. Reportedly, the film made Rs 8 crore on day 1 of its release and Rs 6 crore on day 2. It is expected the film will earn more in the first weekend.
Taking to social media, the movie makers revealed that 'Pathu Thala' is the career best opening for Simbu and announced that the movie has made Rs 12.3 crore. The announcement was made at 4:50 pm om March 31. 'Pathu Thala' after its release has been receiving positive reviews from fans and critics and it is expected to run well in theatres. Following 'Maanaadu' and 'Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu', 'Pathu Thala' gives an hattrick hit for the Silambarasan TR.
Simbu plays the negative role in the film as AGR - an underground gangster, Priya Bhavani Shankar plays the role of politician and Gautham Karthik plays the role of an undercover cop. The rest of the film's cast include Teejay Arunasalam, Anu Sitara, Kalaiyarasan, Redin Kingsley among others. The film's music is composed by AR Rahman.
