Recently, Parvathy shared an interesting titbit on how she played the character of

Maari

in the acclaimed film in a throwback post on her Facebook page. The Mariyaan actress wrote, “Back in 2008, I remember those days at shoot when Sasi sir would narrate the short story “Veyilodu Poi” whenever I felt I needed to feel the essence of my character Maari. “Poo” was based on this short story by Tamizh Chelvan. Even though I was only learning the basics of Tamil, these readings never failed to help me. It’s how he read the story! It guided me and fostered my ability to feel as her. Maari for me bloomed in the magical realm of my imagination and I could always reach out to find answers. The “awe” and “love” we see in her face in this photo, was manifested from within that realm."

The story of Poo revolved around Maari, a village girl who pines for her cousin Thagarasu, but has to sacrifice her deep love for him so that he can lead a comfortable life by marrying a wealthy woman. The film not only made Kollywood sit up and take notice of the fierce talent of the actress, but also won her a clutch of awards, including the

Filmfare Award

for Best Actress. In fact, for a while, she was known as Poo Parvathy in the Tamil film industry.
