“The story involves two boys, the sons of a farmer in village, being taken in by a CBSE school in Chennai. They struggle to adapt to their new environment and the school, too, finds it difficult to deal with the free-spirited boys. How a teacher, played by Mime Gopi, handles them, and the politics behind them being given free education form the plot,” says the director, who reveals that he met almost 60 teachers to create Mime Gopi’s role.

“The character is a unique one. How entertaining will it be if Charlie Chaplin takes a class? I met a teacher called Gopi in a government school in Gudiyatham. If he is teaching Thirukkural, he dresses up like Valluvar… If the lesson is about Raja Raja Chozhan, he dressed up as the Chozha king and goes to class. This method of his has endeared him to students. He is the inspiration behind this role. I believe that students learn a subject better if they feel close to the teacher,” he says.

On choosing Mime Gopi, who is known for his villainous roles, he explains, “I have a theatre background and we have done dramas together. He is an actor who can do all kinds of roles, and that is why I cast him in such a role.”

Kaali Venkat appears as the father of the boys, who are played by Master Gokul and Master Madhan. James Vasanthan has composed the music of this film.
