'Papanasam' to 'Vichithiran': Five Kollywood remakes of hit Malayalam films

A well-structured film from a regional language attracts all language fans. Likewise, Malayalam cinema is admired by Kollywood fans, and their different way of film making always attracts them. Many films in Tamil are a remake of Malayalam films.The upcoming Tamil stars always look for some interesting Malayalam films to pick stories that will suit them. And surprisingly, the remake version does immensly well than the original version. Here is a look into five Kollywood flicks that were remade from a few hit Malayalam films.

'Drishyam' - 'Papanasam'

Mohan Lal and Meena starrer 'Drishyam' received a huge response down South, and the thriller Malayalam drama impressed popular actor Kamal Haasan. He then wished to recreate the magic in Tamil, and joined hands with the same director Jeethu Joseph for the remake version 'Papanasam'. The film was also a successful one in Tamil, and Kamal Haasan carried the film well. Now, 'Drishyam 2' is in the pipeline in Malayalam, and the film is expected to be dubbed in Tamil too.

'Memories '- 'Aarathu Sinam'

The 2013 Malayalam thriller 'Memories' starring Prithviraj received great reviews, and he played the role of a drunkard cop, who is forced to investigate a series of murders. Arulnithi who has been choosing different kinds of stories in Tamil reprised Prithviraj's role in the remake version 'Aarathu Sinam'. It received excellent reviews from the critics and did good numbers at the box office.

'Maheshinte Prathikaram' - 'Nimir'

The tremendous Malayalam actor Fahad Fazil who surprises the fans with his excellent performances did an amazing one in 'Maheshinte Prathikaram', which was directed by Dileesh Pothan. The film was then remade in Tamil as 'Nimir', and Udhayanidhi Stalin established him as a neat actor by playing the lead role in the remake version. But some changes were made in the screenplay in the remake version to suit the cultural and regional tastes of the Tamil audience.

'Bangalore Days' - 'Bangalore Naatkal'

'Bangalore Days' starring Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly, Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Isha Talwar, and Nithya Menen amongst others was one of the biggest releases for a Malayalam film. The high success of the film stepped as the reason for the remake in Tamil as 'Bangalore Naatkal'. Arya, Bobby Simha, Sri Divya, Rana Daggubati, Parvathy, and Raai Laxmi played the lead roles in the remake, which was directed by Bhaskar.

'Joseph' - 'Vichithiran'

'Joseph' the 2018 Malayalam crime thriller features Joju George in the main role, and the interesting screenplay took the film to great heights. Now, the Tamil remake of the film is on the cards, and the film has been titled 'Vichithiran'. RK Suresh is playing the lead role in the film, and he has reduced more than 20 kgs to match his character.
