Veteran Malayalam filmmaker IV Sasi (Iruppam Veedu Sasidharan) passed away early this morning in Chennai. He was 69.
The director was married to Malayalam actress
Seema and is survived by two children. Sasi began his career as an art director with Kaliyalla Kalyanam in 1968. In 1982, he won the Nargis Dutt Award for the best feature film on National Integration for his Malayalam film Aroodam.
I V Sasi's crucial works include Avalude Raavukal, Devaasuram, Anubhavam, Aalkkoottathil Thaniye and Mrigaya to name a few. Sasi introduced Mammootty in a lead role in the film Thrishna. He also introduced
Rajinikanth to the Malayalam film industry with Allauddinum Arputha Vilakkum. He went on to direct
Kamal Haasan in films like
Guru, Allauddinum Arputha Vilakkum, Karishma and Eeta.
I. V. Sasi also experimented with Hindi cinema with films Patita, Anokha Rishta and Pratishodh.
