'No viral songs,' GV Prakash Kumar faced rejection for Ken Karunaas' ‘Youth’ album
Actor Karunas shared a heartwarming anecdote about Suriya's profound support during his wife's difficult pregnancy, even praying for their child's safe arrival. Years later, Suriya lauded Karunas' son, Ken, for his film 'Youth,' calling him like his own son. This touching display of friendship and mentorship continues to resonate with fans.
Ken Karunas starrer 'Youth' is performing well in cinemas and the Tamil film is set for a dubbed Telugu release soon. The major highlight of the film is its songs composed by GV Prakash Kumar. Now, the 'Youth' composer recently revealed an interesting incident about the film that created a buzz.Speaking to Cinema Vikatan, GV Prakash shared that when he first approached an audio company for 'Youth,' they showed little interest in buying the album. “They felt it was a film with a new hero and said it wouldn’t get much reach,” he said. He also added, “They even told me there are no viral songs in this album,” and offered only a very small amount for the music rights.

GV Prakash rejects higher audio deal

Things changed when one of the songs from the film started trending online before release. The same audio company returned with a much bigger offer. “They came back and offered almost five times more,” he revealed. However, GV Prakash refused the deal. “If they didn’t value my music at first, I don’t want to work with them later,” he said. He decided to release the album through his own music label, showing confidence in his work and belief in independent music.

GV Prakash shares how ‘Pookal Pookum’ was composed

GV Prakash also spoke about composing the popular song 'Pookal Pookum' from 'Madrasapattinam.'
He said the tune came to him suddenly while he was traveling. “I asked my friend to stop the bike and recorded the tune on my phone,” he shared. Later, he worked on it at home and played it for the director. But the director initially said, “There is no situation in the film for this song.”

GV Prakash’s strong belief made ‘Pookal Pookum’ a hit

Despite the doubt, GV Prakash believed in the song. “Create a situation for it, this song is very beautiful,” he told the director. The team later added a scene to include the track. The song went on to become a huge hit and remains one of his most loved works. “I always trust my instinct when it comes to music,” he added. The story reflects his self-assuredness and imagination, which have established him as one of the foremost Hindi film composers.
