Nayanthara reveals her mother wanted to see her in a Christian gown for her wedding with Vignesh Shivan after her conversion to Hinduism

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had a dreamy wedding in 2022 after dating for a few years. Although the ceremony was initially planned at the Tirupati temple, last-minute logistical challenges led to a change in location. Nayanthara recently revealed that her mother had wished to see her in a Christian wedding gown, as she had converted to Hinduism and followed a Hindu wedding ceremony.
The couple tied the knot at the Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort and Spa in Mahabalipuram, which was graced by several celebrities. Despite the change in venue, Nayanthara and Vignesh were adamant about keeping their wedding date unchanged. In the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, the actress expressed her desire to have a Hindu wedding as a tribute to her faith after converting from Christianity. She shared, “Since I was born a Christian, my mom always dreamed of seeing me in a wedding gown. But after becoming a Hindu, I wanted a wedding that blended both traditions. We decided on a Hindu wedding with an English touch.”

Nayanthara, originally named Diana Kurien, adopted her screen name when she entered the film industry. Their grand marriage was attended by some of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, including Rajinikanth, Mani Ratnam, Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee, Suriya, and Jyotika. The couple visited the Tirupati temple the day after the wedding to seek blessings. They welcomed twin boys, Uyir and Ulag, the same year through surrogacy.

On the work front, Nayanthara will next be seen in 'Test' alongside R. Madhavan and Siddharth.
