The sixth day of
Navratri is associated with the colour red, and for Aishwarya Lekshmi, it’s a colour that symbolises power. The Ponniyin Selvan actress tells us that she always feels confident when she wears red and adds, “It’s a colour I don’t choose to often wear because I gravitate towards white, which is, on the other hand, more neutral and symbolises peace. But I would go for red on days when I need more confidence. Like, if I’m going for a public event where I have to speak, I would definitely opt for red. I associate red with power.”
Elaborating on her styling of a red sari, Aishwarya shares, “I like to wear glass bangles with sari. If it’s a more important event, I would maybe do a statement piece, which is most often a neck piece. I like neck pieces, and I feel they make a good statement.”
“I have passed the earrings phase, but there was a time when I would wear a jhumka with everything. But when you do it repeatedly, you get bored of it. I’m always looking at what’s something new that I can try.”
Even though she believes that red is a colour that catches the eye and draws attention, Aishwarya also feels that rightly accessorising red-coloured outfits is necessary in order to not go overboard with the look.
“We can go overboard when wearing red if you don’t accessorise it properly, so whenever I wear red, I make sure I only do nude lips. I feel red on red can be done, but I’ve never tried it as I didn’t feel I could carry it,” she says.
As for jewellery, Aishwarya says, “I’m in my piece era as far as saris are concerned. ”
Talking about how she likes to keep it minimal when accessorising her red outfits, the actress says, “I used to go for minimal accessories, but I am currently in my jewellery era, and I am wearing simple hoops; the 18K gold-plated earrings, which are not too big in size, are my goto. I have never been one for big hoops. I like bracelets a lot. So, I wear my watches, and along with that, I wear a bracelet, which is one of my usuals with any outfit I’m styling.”
