Mohan G to remove Chinmayi's version of Emkoney from 'Draupathi 2'
In December 2025, singer Chinmayi had posted a tweet expressing regret for singing the song Emkoney in Mohan G’s Draupathi 2 and stated that she wouldn’t have collaborated with the film’s team had she been aware of the director’s ideology. In response, Mohan G demanded that the singer explain her stance or remove the tweet.
However, with Chinmayi opting to not remove the tweet from her timeline, Mohan G has decided to replace her vocals with a new rendition featuring a different singer. Speaking to us, he shares, “I still don’t know why she posted it. There has been no explanation from her side, and she hasn’t deleted the tweet either.”
He reveals that he has filed an official complaint against the singer with the Director’s Union while the film’s producer has complained to the Producer’s Council. “Both complaints have been forwarded to the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and the Cine Musicians’ Union. They spoke to Chinmayi from their end,” he says, adding, “In our complaint, we have mentioned that she should either share an explanation or, if she doesn’t, then no music director should rope her in for singing songs.”
However, the director maintains that his intention is not to defame the singer. “Nowhere did I say that she should say sorry. She should either delete the tweet if it was unintentional or provide an explanation for what she said. Even now, all I’m saying is that if Chinmayi shares an explanation tomorrow or even if she says that she regrets what happened, I’ll retain her voice. It’s all in her hands, not mine.”
Chinmayi knew she was singing for the film says Mohan G; ‘Invoice had film’s name’The filmmaker claims that Chinmayi’s statement has affected his movie. “You got the remuneration from us, sang the song, and then, if you defame our film the day the song is released, we can’t just sit back and watch that happen. If you are expressing regret for singing the song, then we also should know why you are saying sorry and what went wrong. Even when we paid her, the film’s name was on the invoice. So, she knew she was singing for this film,” he says.
‘I’m responding to people’s requests’Explaining the move behind replacing Chinmayi’s voice, Mohan G shares, “We waited a long time for her to delete the tweet, but she is very adamant. So, we moved to the next level. I got so many requests to remove her voice. So, I’m responding to people’s requests. We’ll have the new recording within this week.”
