As the year comes to an end and a new beginning is set to dawn, actress Meenakshi is ready with her resolution. And no, its nothing about losing weight or signing up more projects in Kollywood. This time, the Mandhira Punnahai actress has decided to turn her focus on her love for animals, part of which involves a little personal sacrifice of sorts. Come 2011, the actress has resolved to turn vegetarian. Ive wanted to give up non-vegetarian food for the last two years, but somehow, it never happened all this while. However, from this year on, I have promised myself that I will turn a lover of greens completely, she says.
So, why this change of heart? Vegetarianism is good for the body and the mind, she states. First of all, a vegetarian diet is wholesome. It gives you all the nutrition required to lead a healthy lifestyle. Secondly, I dont have to go through the guilt trips concerning an animal being killed to satisfy my hunger, she says.
Meenakshi informs us that theres also another reason why she chose to turn vegetarian. I have always wanted to have a pet at home and asked my mom to get me a dog. But she thought I wouldnt be able to take care of it when I was away on shoots. So she decided to buy me a few chicks instead! I got very attached to them and when I had to give them away after they grew up, I felt sad. Since then, every time I had chicken, I was reminded of the chicks I kept as pets. This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to turn vegetarian, she says.
