Marriage is on the cards: Karthi
After a successful 2010, Karthi is gung-ho about his life in the new year and the new decade.
Karthi had a great 2010 with all his three releases going on to become hits and making him a hot and happening star. Now, the actor is looking forward to 2011 even as his Siruthai gets ready for a Pongal release. In an exclusive interview to CT, Karthi opens up on the year that was and his forthcoming Siruthai...
1x1 polls

How was the year for you?
2010 will be a milestone year for me. Three years after the release of my debut film Paruthiveeran, I had three releases this year Aayirathil Oruvan, Paiyya and Naan Mahaan Alla and all of them turned out to be hits. Im on a dream run and could not have asked for anything better.
Paiyya has emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year and you have been accepted as a commercial hero...
Shiva, the character I played in Paiyaa, gave me an all-new image. First and foremost, after Paruthiveeran and Aayirathil Oruvan, I got to wear some good clothes on screen. It was a breezy love story with excellent music. Thanks to Lingusamy, who packaged it so well, people call me Paiyya these days!
What is the secret of your success?

I always remember what my dad told me when I decided to turn into an actor. He was emphatic that whatever I do, I should get accepted by the audiences who watch my films. Im really blessed to be liked by the audiences.
How has Siruthai shaped out?
For the first time ever, Im doing an out-and-out masala entertainer with Siruthai. I play two different characters a cop and a thief. Its a formula film targeting the mass audiences.
But remakes from other languages have not worked well in Tamil in recent times...
Siruthai is a remake of Vikramarkudu, but director Siva has reworked the film to suit the taste of our audiences. It is not a scene-by-scene remake; a lot has been changed in the first half. My comedy scenes with Santhanam have come out really well. It is a complete entertainer and will be the ideal family film for Pongal.
You are paired with Tamannaah again. How was it working with her?
Many people tell me that my pairing with Tamannaah worked big time towards the success of Paiyaa. In Siruthai, our on-screen chemistry will crackle as we share a terrific rapport.
Have your parents found the right girl for you?
They are yet to find the girl, but marriage is definitely on the cards.
How do you feel when you are compared with your brother Suriya?
(Laughs) He is way ahead of me. We are not in competition; I have to sprint faster if I have to catch up with him.
Why are you not signing new films?
As Ive worked as an assistant director, Im very selective about my scripts and about how I am projected on the screen. Im listening to a lot of narrations and will firm up on a script shortly.
