Mari Selvaraj's 'Vaazhai' OTT release postponed to Oct 11

Mari Selvaraj, acclaimed for his impactful films like 'Pariyerum Perumal', 'Karnan', and 'Maamannan', recently directed 'Vaazhai', which premiered in theaters on August 23. The film created considerable buzz due to Selvaraj’s reputation for delivering thought-provoking narratives and powerful social commentary. It has been well-received by audiences, earning praise for its authentic depiction of rural life and social issues. Originally slated for an OTT release on September 27, the makers have now postponed the digital debut to October 11, as the film is still performing well in certain locations. When released, 'Vaazhai' will initially be available for streaming on Hotstar in Tamil, with other language versions expected to follow later.

'Vaazhai' delves into the struggles faced by villagers whose lives are intricately connected to a business revolving around a Banyan tree. Drawing inspiration from Mari Selvaraj’s own childhood experiences, the film weaves a personal and compelling narrative. It features Raghul and Ponvel in prominent roles, supported by a strong cast including Nikhila Vimal, Kalaiyarasan, J Sathish Kumar, Dhivya Duraisamy, and Janaki. The music is composed by the renowned Santhosh Narayanan. At the box office, Vaazhai has proven to be a success, grossing close to Rs 20 crore, prompting the makers to declare it a hit. Mari Selvaraj revealed his plans to do a sequel to 'Vaazhai' at the film's success meet.

'Vaazhai' has garnered support and praise from several prominent figures in Tamil cinema, including Rajinikanth, Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Vijay Sethupathi, Silambarasan, and Sivakarthikeyan, further enhancing its reputation and visibility.
