Alaigal Oyvathillai marked the debut of actors Karthik and Radha and the film went on to become a huge hit. The 1981 film was directed by

Bharathiraaja

and the star cast included Thiagarajan and Silk Smitha. Music for the film was by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by B Kannan and editing by R Bhaskaran. The film was remade in Telugu and Hindi as well.
