Man burns Kamal Haasan’s photo in Bengaluru after his Kannada language comment sparks outrage

Kamal Haasan is all set to appear in his upcoming film ‘Thug Life’, a gangster action thriller directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam. But before the film’s release, the actor has found himself in hot water over a controversial remark. He recently said that the “Kannada language was born out of Tamil”, a comment that has upset many.

Man sets actor’s photo on fire
As reported by Pinkvilla, a man in Bengaluru burnt Kamal Haasan’s photo near Pavitra Paradise Circle. This act caused a traffic jam and was seen as a public disturbance. The police took immediate action and charged the man under sections 270 and 283, which relate to creating a public nuisance and spreading false information.

KFCC warns of ban on ‘Thug Life’
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has reacted strongly. They have said they will not allow Thug Life to release in Karnataka unless Kamal Haasan apologises for his statement. The KFCC president said they stood by Kannada activists and warned of major protests if Haasan did not say sorry.


Kamal Haasan reacts to backlash
Kamal Haasan spoke about the controversy during a press conference. He said he believed in democracy, law, and justice. He also shared his genuine love for Karnataka, saying, “I believe love will always triumph. Now, my love for Karnataka is true, my love for Andhra is true, my love for Kerala is true, so nobody will suspect me except those who have an agenda.”

When asked if he would apologise, especially after the Karnataka government’s warning, the actor stood his ground. He said he had received threats before and would only apologise if he truly felt he was in the wrong.

The film stars Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Pankaj Tripathi, and Ali Fazal, among others.

Thug Life is set to release in cinemas on 5 June.
