Is Bollywood turning to the south for its heroines? Now, the latest trend among Hindi film heroes and directors is to cast south Indian heroines in their new ventures. Successful south-based actresses like Asin, Genelia, Sada, Shriya, Trisha, Priyamani and now Sruthi Haasan are doing Hindi films. As a leading director remarked in an interview, 'Today, every hero in Mumbai wants to introduce a south girl in their films.'Meanwhile, the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Mamta Mohandas, the Bangalore-based Mallu girl who failed to impress in Tamil films, is joining the Bollywood bandwagon.
A little bird has informed CT that Mamta is getting groomed to debut in Bollywood and is on the verge of signing a very big Hindi film with a top hero! The elusive Mamta was not reachable, as she has switched off her mobile. Sources close to the actress confirmed that she recently did a glamorous photo shoot with one of the country's best photographers. Mamta has been keeping a low profile after her last release in Tamil, Guru En Aalu, bombed! Since then, she has not signed any new films and in fact, has no new releases lined up in Tamil or Telugu!
A source close to Mamta said, 'For the last few weeks, she has been on a crash diet and has managed to look awesome like a Hindi film heroine in the photo shoot. At the moment, she is doing three films in Malayalam in which she has meaty roles opposite Mohanlal, Dileep and Prithviraj.' It is obvious that Mamta is not signing any Tamil or Telugu films but doing Malayalam films as she can easily complete them in three weeks and move on. Recently, she got a lot of critical acclaim for her role as a TV reporter in Ranjit Shankar's Malayalam film Passenger. As per sources, Mamta is reported to have met Farah Khan in Mumbai and is eager to do her new film Happy New Year with Shah Rukh Khan. Remember? Farah had given breaks to south Indian newcomers like Amrita Rao and Deepika Padukone in her Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om respectively.Mamta, who can look glamorous, has the right attitude, determination and a north Indian look that may work to her advantage. Till she signs up a Bollywood film, her mobile will say ' 'Not reachable!'
