Malavika Mohanan has shared the screen with leading stars in the South, including Thalapathy Vijay, Rajinikanth, and Chiyaan Vikram. Recently, her film 'Thangalaan' with Chiyaan Vikram and Parvathy Thiruvothu was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. However, the movie did not perform well at the box office, falling short of expectations. In a recent interview, Malavika addressed the film's underperformance.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, 'Thangalaan' had a large-scale narrative and high-octane action scenes. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Malavika shared that every film has its own journey and discussed why it could not achieve better box office numbers. She believes that the only thing artists can do is give their maximum input to the film, as it helps avoid creative regrets in the future. The actress stated that once the film is released, everything is in the hands of the "film gods." She believes that once a movie is out, nothing is within the maker's control.
After 'Thangalaan', Malavika was seen in the Hindi film 'Yudhra', alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi, which also faced setbacks in theatres. Nevertheless, Malavika is happy that her character Aarathi received a positive response from both fans and critics. "It was one of the hardest roles I’ve ever done, both physically and mentally challenging," she said. She is grateful that the audience acknowledged her hard work in the role. She expressed gratitude for everything that happened with both 'Thangalaan' and 'Yudhra'.
'Thangalaan' grossed Rs 68.5 crore globally, while 'Yudhra' earned just Rs 14.38 crore. Malavika reveals that 'Yudhra' is emotionally connected to her, and she values its narrative over box office performance. However, she noted that films are often judged based on their earnings, even if they don't resonate personally with viewers. She acknowledged the influence of box office numbers but emphasized that she doesn't let it affect her too much, as long as her work in the film is appreciated.
On the work front, Malavika Mohanan will soon share the screen with Prabhas in 'The Raaja Saab'.
