Director J Mahendran and maestro Ilaiyaraaja, who have given many memorable songs in the 1980s, are coming together for a new film, which will be the veterans first film to be shot in digital. Ilaiyaraaja has been an integral part of my films and his music will be crucial in this film too. We will start the composing by the end of this month, reveals the filmmaker. As with his classic
Uthiripookkal, this film too is based on a short story by Pudumai Pithan. It is not a total adaptation but inspired by a few lines in the short story. The film deals with a problem that many middle-class families face today, and will be in my usual way of presentation, he says. The setting will be a small town near Coimbatore but the director assures that the issue the film deals with is universal.
The casting is yet to be finalized but Mahendran reveals that most of the cast will be new faces with one or two seasoned artists. Cameraman B Sanjay (son of veteran cinematographer B Loganathan) and editor Mu Kasi Viswanathan are part of the crew. The films shoot will begin in early March and the director says he will complete the entire shoot by the month-end, and release the film in May.
