Madras High Court rejects appeal to ban Suriya's 'Kanguva' release, deets inside
'Kanguva' featuring Suriya in the lead role is slated for a pan-Indian release on November 14, and the reservations for the highly-anticipated film are open now. Meanwhile, Reliance filed a petition in court seeking a ban on the release of 'Kanguva'. But the court dismissed the case after the latest hearing.Producer Gnanavel Raja, who heads the production company Studio Green, had taken a loan of Rs 99.22 crore from Reliance to fund the films 'Teddy 2', 'X Meets Y', and 'Thangalaan'. While he had repaid Rs 45 crore, Reliance alleged in a petition filed with the Madras High Court that he failed to clear the remaining Rs 55 crore, violating the terms of their agreement. The petition requested a halt on the OTT release of 'Thangalaan' and on the release of 'Kanguva', starring Suriya, until the balance was settled.See more: Kanguva Movie ReviewDuring a hearing on November 8, 2024, Reliance’s representatives informed the court that Mango Mass Media had paid Rs 18 crore on behalf of Studio Green, and therefore they had no objection to Thangalaan being released on OTT. Studio Green further assured the court that the outstanding amount would be paid to Reliance by the end of the day, and the case was postponed. Accordingly, Studio Green confirmed that the remaining balance had been paid.
