Madras High Court has imposed a fine on theatres that charged extra ticket prices on big-ticket releases. A petitioner named Devarajan had filed a case in the Madras High Court alleging that Suriya starrer 'Singam 3' and Vijay starrer 'Bairavaa' were released during the festive season and that the theaters charged excessive fees. In that petition, he had mentioned that no action was taken despite raising a complaint to the police and government officials in this regard.

In this situation, this petition came up for hearing in the Madras High Court today (Feb 15). In a report filed by the Tamil Nadu government at that time, it was reported that fines were collected from theaters that charged high fees. Accordingly, the court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to take appropriate action against theaters charging more than the government-fixed fee. The court has also ordered the Tamil Nadu government to have a track of overcharged ticket prices during big movie releases.

Vijay's 'Bairavaa' was released in January 2017 for the occasion of Pongal, while Suriya's 'Singam 3' aka 'Si 3' was released a month later. Both films received mixed reviews and failed to develop the best films of respective stars. But the court's recent order over the 2017 releases has shocked the fans as several biggies were released later to it and the tickets for it were sold for a higher price.
