Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker

KV Anand

was one of the assistants to ace lensman

PC Sreeram

before the former turned independent with his debut project Kadhal Desam in Kollywood. The Ayan director took to Twitter to share an interesting throwback picture from the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s

Thiruda Thiruda

in which he was assisting Sreeram. He had clicked a picture of cinematographers Ramji and Balasubramaniem, who were his colleagues in the project, during the lunch break. Anand remembers that the photo was clicked during the schedule in Ooty. He tweeted, “My Click during #ThirudaThiruda lunch break (1993) Ooty. My colleagues @ramji_ragebe1 and @balasubramaniem.”

The photo has Ramji’s image inside a rear-view mirror while Balasubramaniem is seen gazing into uncertainty. The movie was the second collaboration of Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman. Ramji and Balasubramaniem made their debut in Kollywood with Valla and Iraniyan respectively. Anand and Ramji worked with Sreeram for films like Gopura Vasalile, Amaran, Meera and Thevar Magan, too, while Balasubramaniem worked with him for Thevar Magan and

Kuruthipunal

, among which, the latter was the second directorial project of Sreeram.

Known for projects with directors like Selvaraghavan, Ameer, Mohan Raja and others, Ramji's last released movie was Jyotika-starrer Ponmagal Vandhal, the first Tamil release on OTT after theatres shut down due to coronavirus . On the other hand, Balasubramaniem, known for critically-acclaimed films like Pithamagan and Neerparavai, and super hits like Rajini Murugan, last cranked camera for Bodha Yeri Budhi Maari.
