Kollywood's raining memories
We love our cinema right from the slo mo action scenes to the many sound effects of the fight sequences, cheesy lines, the dramatic entry of the hero replete with punch dialogues, the coyness of the heroines and the menacing villains.
Much as we love all this, there is something that ups the oomph factor in all the movies. The uncanny timing of rain! Isnt it wonderful how the rain lashes down on the couple just when they realize they are in love or maybe even when they realize the relation is headed for a disaster.
1x1 polls

Rain has always been used either as a sexy element (Who can forget Zeenat Aman in Satyam Shivam Sundaram!) or something that washes down fears and heartbreak. Either ways, the rain gods have been kind to us! With sudden downpours washing down Chennai, heres our pick of the best rain songs in Kollywood...
RHYTHM - NADIYE NADIYE
What did we tell you about slo mo running? This song from Rhythm, way back in 2000, has just that. With Arjun running in the backdrop of a gigantic waterfall, the song has an addictive tune that youd love to hum to with a cuppa in your hands to keep you warm and the pitter patter to keep you company.
ALAIPAYUTHEY - EVANO ORUVAN
Rains not always about sexily-clad, semi-naked women and oomph. Sometimes its about heartbreak and emotions. These two aspects always run high in the event of a rain. It makes us philosophical and brings out the dormant poet in us. Rain also wakes up the romantic in us. And this song is one of those that would bring out that hot lump of coal lodged in your throat. Set against strong winds and rains lashing out, Shalini and Madhavan give a tear jerker of a performance in this song!

MAZHAI - MINNALE MINNALE
Clad in a sexy orange sari (turns to white later, of course), Shriya traipses to Jeyam Ravis tunes as the rains crash down on them. No rain song is complete without a transparent sari scene, replete with wet hair, piercing looks and droplets running down unmentionable parts of the body! This is one of those songs that will make you sit up and notice the rain (And Shriya too, we think!)
DEIVATHIIRUMAGAL - VIZHIGALIL ORU VAANAVIL 180 - RULES KIDAYATHU
Ultra slow motion rain drops, dramatic turns, tresses swaying et al, Anushka looks stunning in the scene from Deivathiirumagal. Similarly, boy-next-door Siddharth shows off his slow-motion stunts in 180, with brilliantly choreographed dance sequences. With cent per cent visual appeal and a catchy tune, these are new-age rain songs that you wont forget!
PAIYYA - ADADA MAZHAIDA
Set against the lush greenery of Kerala and the roaring Athirapully Vaazhchal, this song celebrates rain! The scenes in this one just make you want to drop everything youre doing and head to Gods own country! Try July, you might just be able to recreate this song, even without a Karthi-like man or Tamannaah-like lady on your arm!
GURU- VEN MEGHAM
You just cant help but tap your feet when you hear this one! This song is another reminder as to why you should forget your umbrella and enjoy the rains in all its glory! Forget the madness of the city, honking cars and dustfilled metros. Show the urbanites what theyre missing with this song!
