5 Kollywood films releasing for Pongal 2022

Unlike the previous years, Pongal 2022 is going to be a very different one for Kollywood because the industry will not have any big star's film releasing this festive season. Instead, there will be five medium and small-budget Tamil films hitting the screens. We take a look at what these films have on on offer...

Kollywood's latest heartthrob Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan makes his debut as a lead actor with this romantic film, which is directed by newcomer A Hariharan. The film revolves around the protagonists' romantic episodes with two women, played by Teju Ashwini and Avantika Mishra. Given the fan following that Ashwin has managed to develop, a few theatres in Chennai have even slotted early morning shows for this film. The peppy songs of Vivek-Mervin have already created some buzz around this film.

Marking the debut of comedian Sathish, this family entertainer about a man who starts behaving like a dog is directed by debutant Kishore Rajkumar. Cooku With Comali fame Pavithra Lakshmi will be making her debut as a female lead. The film is considered to be one of the safe bets among this year's Pongal releases.

Sasikumar teams up with his Sundarapandian director SR Prabhakaran in this rural action drama, which was completed a couple of years ago, but had to wait for the right time to hit screens because of the COVID pandemic. Madonna Sebastian will be seen as Sasikumar's love interest in this film, which has Soori as the comic relief.

Directed by actor-turned-choreographer Harikumar, this action drama has another actor-choreographer-director Prabhudeva in the lead role. He is paired opposite Comali girl Samyuktha Hegde. It was initially supposed to release on December 10, but the makers had to postpone it, and now, this film will be hitting screens on January 14.

Releasing on January 13, this twisty thriller stars Vidaarth and Dhanya B in lead roles and is directed by R Srinuvasan. What makes it special is that it marks the 25th film of actor Vidaarth.
