Kollywood's pet peeve

Titles are very important in Kollywood and this trend is proof enough of that. If a film can't be named after the lead character for some reason, then what does a filmmaker do?
Kollywood's pet peeve
Titles are very important in Kollywood and this trend is proof enough of that. If a film can't be named after the lead character for some reason, then what does a filmmaker do?
Simple - he just finds an animal with the characteristics that he would associate his lead character with and names his movie after it! Remember Superstars Kazhugu and Murattukaalai? And it's not that present-day times are any different if one were to go by these examples...
1x1 polls

SIRUTHAI
If Suriya can be Singam, can Karthi be far behind? Well, he soon became Siruthai and played the roles of a cop and thief in this entertainer that met with good response at the BO. Just like the way his brothers superhit film was remade in Hindi, Karthis Tamil film (which itself was a Telugu remake) is now being made in Hindi by Prabhu Deva.
SINGAM
This film that starred Suriya in the lead role had him playing a cop who reigns supreme in his village. Some of the dialogues in the film (which constantly played out during the trailers) are still remembered for their punch. What's more, when they remade this film in Hindi, the makers retained the name with an extra h! This films director, Hari, seems to have a penchant for animal titles - with his latest Venghai being an example.

SINGAMPULI
If you have one character, you can name the film singam or puli, but what happens when a director has a hero playing a double role? Well, he just names it Singampuli! Jiiva played the two contrasting roles in this commercial action-packed flick that didnt do very well at the BO.
KURUVI
OK, when this film released, it was BIG. One, because Vijay was joining hands with director Dharani after their superhit Kuruvi for this film. And two, because it marked the production debut of Udhayanidhi Stalin, now a common name in the industry. It was titled so because people who flew abroad as a messenger/courier (which features in the film) were (and still are) called kuruvis.
MYNAA
Can a girl be named Mynaa? Yes, she can! Ask Prabu Solomon, who directed this critically-acclaimed film that featured Vidharth and Amala Paul in lead roles. A film that galvanized the filmmakers career, Mynaa is also well known for the performances by its supporting actors. The directors next film, interestingly, is titled Kumki after the kumki yanai (the elephant which trains other elephants).
