Raksha Bandhan is not confined to the Northern part of India anymore. We, in the south have also been celebrating the festival with gusto. And, namma Kollywood too has its fair share of movies that revolve around sister-brother sentiments. Sample a few

Pasamalar

:
This classic was released in the year 1961 featuring Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Savithri and Gemini Ganesan in the lead. The movie talks about sufferings of two siblings who are orphaned after their mother dies. The film takes a turn when the sister (Savitri) falls in love.

Kizhakku Cheemayile

:

Kizhakku Cheemaiyile, starring Napolean, Vijaykumar and Radhika talks about a close bond between a brother and sister. When the sister gets married, the husband doesn’t like the bond between them, due to which problems arise between the couple.

Samudhiram

:

This is another brother-sister classic which involves one sister and three brothers. Sarath Kumar, Murali and Manoj Bharathiraja would do anything for Kaveri (their sister in the film). When she is married to man who dislikes the family, the husband tortures the brothers and humiliates them.

Chokka Thangam

:

Vijayakanth, Soundarya, Prakash Raj and Uma play the lead roles in the movie. After Muthu (Vijaykanth) gets his sister married to Prakash Raj, the latter’s family forces him to marry their daughter. But, Muthu is in love with another woman (Soundarya).

Thirupaachi

:

This Vijay-entertainer is another one from the vault. Sivagiri, a blacksmith from a village marries her sister off to a guy living in Chennai. When he realises that the city she is living in is not safe for her and the locality, he goes on a mission to free the city from the evil.

Pazhani

:
Bharath disg uises himself as a servant and works in his sister’s (Kushboo) house to expose her husband’s illegal business and illicit relationship with another woman. The film revolves around the love between the siblings.
