Call it dearth of film titles or piggybacking on something already popular or using a title that actually suits their story ��� Kollywood filmmakers are considering the titles of popular yesteryear films as a powerful tool to create curiosity about the film among audiences and bring them to the theatres. Not only do they believe that such titles lead to curiosity about the content of the film, they also feel that an already-existing title stokes the expectations of fans.
What���s interesting is that the story of these new films has nothing to do with the content of the old films. Here is a list of upcoming films that are riding on the back of old titles.
Magalir MattumJyotika���s upcoming film with director Bramma is titled as Magalir Mattum. The film is said to be a feel-good family entertainer, in which Jyotika plays the role of a documentary filmmaker. Interestingly, Revathy, Urvashi, Rohini acted together in a women-centric comedy entertainer, titled Magalir Mattum, which was released in 1994.
Nenjam Marapathillai With SJ Suryah playing the lead, the trailer of Nenjam Marapathillai is already a hit on social media. Directed by Selvaraghavan, the film is a romantic-horror, in which Suryah plays the role of a rich businessman. Interestingly, Nenjam Marapathillai (1963) is also a romantic-horror film, written and directed by CV Sridhar. The film had Kalyan Kumar and Devika in the lead roles, and the film received rave reviews from the audience back then.
Adhe KangalAdhe Kangal (1967) was a cult classic thriller, directed by AC Tirulokchandar, which had Ravichandran and Kanchana in the lead. Now, actor Kalaiyarasan���s upcoming film is also titled the same, which is said to be an intriguing suspense-thriller. The film, we hear, revolves around the concept of money.
Veera Veera (1994) was a hit romantic comedy, which had
Rajinikanth, Meena and Roja in the leads. But now, the same title has now been announced for actor Kreshna���s upcoming action-entertainer. Though the two stories are different, the director has decided to opt for the same title as it justifies the content. Karunakaran also plays a crucial role in the film.
Tik Tik Tik After giving a zombie film, director Shakti Sounder Rajan and Jayam Ravi are teaming up to give a space thriller. Interestingly, it is the same title as that of the yesteryear Kamal Haasan���s movie, which was helmed by Bharathirajaa 35 years ago. Jayam Ravi���s film is said to be
a new-age thriller, and the director claims that audience can easily relate to this title when they watch the film.
Nenjamundu Nermaiundu Jiiva is working on a film titled Nenjamundu Nermaiundu, which is being directed by JM Arun. In the first look, Jiiva looks like the guy-next-door and yet, manages to look tough and gritty. Interestingly, Ramarajan���s film with Roobini as the female lead was also titled Nenjamundu Nermaiundu. It was a full-length comedy entertainer, and the film was released in 1991.
