After playing a college student in Pariyerum Perumal,
Kathir will be seen essaying a student again in his next Iyalvathu Karavel. Directed by debutant SLS Henry, the film is based on love and student politics at the oldest college in Chennai.
Giving us details about the film, Henry says, "The film delves into the relevance of student unions. While student unions are not encouraged in colleges because they feel students tend to shift their focus from studying, there is a positive side to these bodies, too, and that is what we showcase in the film," says Henry, adding, "Like any college subject, this one, too, is an out-and-out entertainer with elements of love, comedy and friendship."
On choosing Kathir for the role, Henry says, "I saw an energy in him in one particular scene in Pariyerum Perumal.
I felt he would be apt for it. Also, he is a dedicated artiste, and so, we chose him for the film." The film also has Yuvalakshmi as the female lead, and Master
Mahendran in a negative role.
Kathir is kicked about this project. He says, "While the film focuses on college union, there are so many layers to it. And that will make the film interesting. While Pariyerum... saw me as a quiet student, in this one, it is the complete opposite. We are trying to match the look of real-life students, and even have real students as part of the film."
The team will begin shooting in March 16 and the film will be shot across Dindivanam, Pondicherry and Chennai.
