'Kara', starring Dhanush and
Mamitha Baiju, is continuing its slow run at the box office. The film has been witnessing a steady decline in collections despite completing only nine days in theatres. After a decent opening phase, the movie has struggled to maintain strong momentum during weekdays.
India and worldwide collections for 'Kara'
According to Sacnilk, 'Kara' has collected Rs 30.26 crore in India net collections so far. The India gross collection currently stands at Rs 34.89 crore.
The film has also managed to post moderate numbers in overseas markets.
Internationally, the movie has grossed Rs 10.15 crore till now. With the latest figures included, the worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 45.04 crore within eight days of release.
Day-wise collections continue to drop
'Kara' recorded Rs 1.80 crore on Day 5, which was the first Monday. The occupancy stood at 16.3 percent across 3,226 shows. On Day 6 the first Tuesday, the movie witnessed a slight improvement and earned Rs 2 crore. The occupancy also increased marginally to 17 percent from 3,322 shows.
However, the collections dipped once again on Day 7. On the first Wednesday, Kara minted Rs 1.58 crore while maintaining 16.3 percent occupancy across 3,351 shows.
The downward trend continued further on Day 8, which was the second Thursday. The film collected Rs 1.53 crore with an occupancy rate of 15.7 percent across nearly 3,300 shows.
With these numbers, the movie completed its first week in India with a total net collection of Rs 30.26 crore.
Dhanush's film story set during Gulf war crisis
'Kara' is set against the backdrop of the 1991 Gulf War between Iraq and America. The story takes place in Ramanathapuram, a coastal region in Tamil Nadu, where residents face a severe fuel shortage after oil depots across the world are destroyed.
Karasamy risks everything to protect the people who trust him and help them survive the worsening crisis.
Apart from Dhanush and Mamitha Baiju, the film also features Karunas, K. S. Ravikumar, Jayaram, M. S. Bhaskar, Sreeja Ravi, Prithvi Pandiarajan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in important roles.
The movie marks director Vignesh Raja’s second feature after Por Thozhil. The thriller had starred R. Sarathkumar.
