Kamal Haasan learned Bengali for Aparna Sen: Shruti Haasan reveals the untold truth behind her father’s Bengali connection
Kamal Haasan is celebrated for his remarkable ability to master multiple languages with ease. He is fluent in more than eight languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, and French. However, not all of these were learned for cinema. In a YouTube conversation with actor Sathyaraj, Kamal Haasan’s daughter, Shruti Haasan, revealed an intriguing truth about why her father learned Bengali.

Bengali, not for cinema but for love

Shruti disclosed that Kamal Haasan learned Bengali during a time when he was deeply in love with acclaimed Bengali actress Aparna Sen. According to her, this was the real motivation behind his interest in the language, not cinema. She even pointed out how Kamal chose the name “Aparna” for Rani Mukerji’s character in his film Hey Ram, which many fans believe was a subtle reflection of his personal feelings.

A personal life of love, marriage, and breakups

Kamal Haasan’s personal life has often been in the spotlight. He married dancer Vani Ganapathy in 1978 but later grew close to actress Sarika. After a decade, his marriage with Vani ended, and he married Sarika in 1988. The couple had two daughters—Shruti (born in 1986) and Akshara (born in 1991). However, their marriage ended in 2004. Later, Kamal was in a live-in relationship with actress Gautami for 11 years, from 2005 to 2016.

Between politics and cinema

Balancing his passions, Kamal Haasan continues to remain active in both politics and films. Recently sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP, he is also pursuing major film projects. His latest release, 'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam, failed to create a strong impact at the box office. However, excitement is already building for his upcoming film with Rajinikanth, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. This marks the legendary duo’s reunion on the big screen after 44 years, making it one of the most awaited films in recent times.
