Actor
Ponnambalam, who made a mark in blockbuster films like Naattaamai,
Muthu and Indian, has been admitted in a hospital in Adyar, Chennai, for a kidney-related problem.
After coming to know of this, actor and politician
Kamal Haasan reached out to the actor, and has been helping him out. We hear Kamal has been calling up and speaking to the actor everyday and keeping track of his progress.
And given Ponnambalam's condition, the Ulaganayagan has come forward to bear the educational expenses of the actor's two kids.
Ponnambalam shared a video of him in the hospital through a PR.
The 56-year-old actor started out in films as a stuntman and then started acting in minor roles in films. A couple of such roles, in the films of Kamal Haasan, like Apoorva Sagodharargal and Michael Madana Kama Rajan, got him noticed, but he hit the big league when he played the villain in KS Ravikumar's 1994-film Naattaamai, starring Sarath Kumar. This performance also landed the actor another big film — Rajinikanth's Muthu, which was also directed by KS Ravikumar, in 1995.
Ponnambalam also got into politics in 2011, and has been part of two political parties since then.
He was also a contestant on the popular TV reality show Bigg Boss Tamil, which is hosted by Kamal Haasan. He was a housemate in the second edition of the show, in 2018. Though his actions attracted audiences (for all the wrong reasons), he wasn't a favourite on the show, and was evicted after a few weeks in the house.
The actor was last seen in Jayam Ravi's 2019-film Comaali.
