Kalavani was a dream debut for me: Oviya

No hard feelings, says actress Oviya, talking about her scenes being trimmed in Kamal Haasan's recent film.
Kalavani was a dream debut for me: Oviya
It has taken Oviya some time to register the fact that her maiden film in Tamil, Kalavani, has given her instant fame and recognition.
After all, thats what has helped her make her debut in other south Indian languages Kannada and Telugu. Yes, Oviya will be working in the Kannada and Telugu remakes of Kalavani.
I owe it all to Sargunam sir for giving me such a wonderful film to work on.

It was a dream debut for me. When he heard that I will be reprising my role in other languages, he told me that I should grab this opportunity to perform even better, says Oviya, who has already begun work on the Kannada version.
Kirathaka is directed by Pradeep Raja and Im paired opposite Yash in the film. Pradeep has made a few changes in the script to suit the Kannada audiences, but otherwise, the essence of Kalavani remains. Theres a dream song in Kirathaka, which wasnt part of the original, she reveals.
Oviya says shes finding it easy to work on the remake versions. Even in Kirathaka, I wear a pavada-dhavani and tie my hair in two plaits. Ive a good ear for language and have picked up Kannada now, she says and adds, I will start working on the Telugu version in March with a new director. I think Nikhil will be playing the lead.
Oviya is also in the news for voicing out her displeasure after her role in Manmadhan Ambu was chopped to barely a few scenes.

A lot of my friends asked me why I agreed to do the film as I hardly appear in a few scenes. But then, I had an opportunity to work with biggies like Kamal Haasan, K S Ravikumar and Madhavan right at the beginning of my career. Im a big fan of Kamal sir and I didnt want to let go of this opportunity. Ravikumar sir had approached me after seeing Kalavani and told me that I had to play Maddys atthai ponnu. I gladly agreed because it was a terrific team. When I saw the final version, I was initially upset. But I was told that it was due to some technical problems that they had to cut my portions. I had fun shooting with them and have no hard feeling now, she clarifies.
Meanwhile, Oviya is busy with a couple of films in Tamil. Im working on Rasu Mathuravans Mutthukku Muthaaga, in which I play a basketball player. Its a not the usual hero-heroine subject and deals with the relationship between children and parents. It will surely rank among the best films in recent times, she signs off on a hopeful note.
