The 67th
National Film Awards
have been announced and
Vetri Maaran’s directorial,
Asuran
, has won big this year. The film, which stars
Dhanush in the lead, along with
Manju Warrier, Teejay Arunasalam and Ken Karunas, has won awards in two categories - Best Tamil Film and Best Actor (for Dhanush, which he shared with Manoj Bajpayee).
Kalaipuli S Thanu
, who’s produced the film, is visibly thrilled with the movie’s win at the National Awards. Ask him if he anticipated that the film, which was appreciated by both audience and critics alike, would win the national honour and he says, “After I saw the film, I knew that Dhanush would get the Best Actor award. I also felt Vetri Maaran would get it for Best Director, and the film will win for Best Cinematography, Best Music, Best Editing, and Saindhavi would get it for Best Singer. I’m happy we won in two categories.”
He continues, “In 1992, Balu Mahendra’s Vanna Vanna Pookkal fetched me my first National Award. And now, almost 30 years later, his sishyan Vetri Maaran has given me my next award with his Asuran. Indha vetri Vetri-kku samarpanam.”
So, are there celebrations on the card? “As we speak, I’m going to meet Vetri Maaran. I do hope to organize a small celebration,” he signs off.
