Fans praise performances and dark tone
Fans on X (Twitter) have had a mixed to positive response to the series. The biggest appreciation has been for the performances, particularly Vijay Sethupathi's. One tweeted: “Vijay Sethupathy carries the series with intensity and unique style.” Milind Soman also received praise for adding a sense of authority and gravitas. VJ Parvathy’s natural acting and Sudev Nair’s takedown have also been appreciated. The series’ dark and gritty theme, atmosphere, and visuals have been appreciated. Some even called it a “decent thriller that works for its concept and performances.”
Slow narration drives mixed reviews
At the same time, several viewers pointed out issues with pacing. Many tweets mentioned that the narration feels slow and lacks gripping twists. One review said, “The main issue is slow narration; it feels laggy in many places.” Some expected more engaging investigation elements and stronger episode endings. While performances and background score were appreciated, a section of the audience felt the screenplay could have been tighter. Overall, fans are calling it an “above-average series” with good acting but uneven storytelling.
'Kaattaan plot explained
‘Kaattaan’ is a dark, rural thriller series that entails suspense and violence. It tells the story non-linearly to add to its complication. It revolved around a very deep event on the villagers' lands; hence, the introduction of magic. The series discusses human feeling, power, and survival. It is very intriguing, and with the many twists in the story, it can easily lose a person. The drawbacks aside, it is just a different movie to watch, a good choice for those who love thrillers and suspense.
ETimes review for the series reads, "Vijay Sethupathi anchors the show through star presence more than performance. He's cool under pressure, generous to the oppressed, handy with his fists when provoked. It's a crowd-pleasing vigilante mould that doesn't leave much room for complexity. He stays composed across every timeline, which keeps him just short of fully dimensional when the non-linear structure seems designed to reveal more. The season's central mystery also leaves you with more loose ends than you'd like. It's an imperfect season, but one that leaves you wanting a second."
