After formally announcing his political entry earlier this year, superstar
Rajinikanth’s first public outreach landed himself in a huge controversy. The actor turned politician
on Wednesday visited the injured people in the Sterlite protests that claimed the lives of 13 civilians in Tuticorin.
Addressing the media later in the day, Rajinikanth lost his cool and stated that Tamil Nadu would turn into a graveyard if there are endless protests.
Rajinikanth also received severe backlash from political leaders after he blamed “anti-social” elements that resorted to violence in the peaceful protests, which ultimately lead to the death of civilians in the Sterlite killings.
Earlier today, ‘
Kaala’ director Pa Ranjith opened up on the controversy. Defending Rajinikanth’s statement, Ranjith said that he had spoken to the former regarding the issue. The ‘Kabali’ director clarified that Rajinikanth did not say people shouldn’t protest. Instead, he said he was pained by the unfortunate incidents that happen during protests. Ranjith also said that certain rights can be obtained only in the form of protests.
Amidst all controversies, the much-awaited gangster drama ‘Kaala’ is slated to release on
June 7. Directed by Pa Ranjith, the film will see Rajinikanth playing a gangster called Kaala Karikalan. Produced by Wunderbar Films, the film also stars
Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Eswari Rao, Samuthirakani and Pankaj Tripathi in supporting roles.
