K-Town filmmakers lend a helping hand

Tamil film directors are collaborating with their peers on projects that they arent directing.
K-Town filmmakers lend a helping hand
While fans might view directors as competitors trying to one up their rivals, the reality seems to be very different. In fact, the current crop of young directors seems to believe in helping each other out with their projects.
Even as a number of directors have been producing films for their assistants and friends (Sasikumar, Prabusolomon, Shankar, et al), now, a few are also writing scripts or dialogues for films directed by others.
1x1 polls
While this isnt exactly a new trend (K Bhagyaraj wrote for his guru Bharathirajas Oru Kaidhiyin Dairy while Mani Ratnam scripted Chatriyanfor his assistant K Subash in the 80s), it definitely is a welcome one.
Heres a list of directors who are collaborating on the projects of other filmmakers
Ameer
Ameer kickstarted this recent trend when he wrote the script for Subramaniya Sivas Yogi. In addition to scripting the film based on Sivas story, the Paruthiveeran director also acted in the lead role of a gangster who finds himself with a baby.
Vetri Maaran
The National Award-winning filmmaker might not be directing any film at this moment thanks to the rather-long pre-production work (read delay) on his Vada Chennai, but he has been keeping himself with not one but two other projects
Naan Rajavaga Pogiren and an untitled film. While the former, starring Nakul and Chandini, is directed by his friend Prithvi Rajkumar, the latter will be helmed by his associate Manigandan.
Rajesh
He directed Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, touted to be one of the biggest hits of the year, and is right now busy with another biggie, Karthis All In All Azhagu Raja. But Rajesh is also finding time to write the dialogues for his assistant Pon Rams debut film, which will have Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. Not surprisingly, we hear that the film will be a comedy in his style.
Seenuramasamy
The Thenmerku Paruvakkatru director, whose next film, Neer Paravai is currently in post production, will be penning the dialogues for a romantic story laced with humour which will be directed by Tamilselvan, who earlier directed the Vidharth-starrer Kollaikaran. The film is currently in early stages of pre-production.
Pandiraj
This director discusses his projects with his good friend, director Suseenthiran. Says Pandiraj, I was roped in to write the dialogues for Suseenthirans next but after seeing his script, I felt he had done a good job himself and didnt take it up. We usually give our scripts to each other and suggest corrections. For my Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, I asked Chimbudevan to look at script while he too asked me to read the script of his Maareesan and give my feedback.
