K Balachander quit smoking after heart attack

Veteran director K Balachander passed away recently at the age of 84. Talking on a special TV show for the ace director, veteran actor Sivakumar who had been a close friend to the late director, opened up on K Balachander. While taking about how K Balachander's career shaped up since his childhood, Sivakumar revealed that it took a massive heart attack that changed the director's life.
Actor Sivakumar said it was only after the attack, K Balachander took his life seriously and decided not to touch cigarettes till his last breath. Other major decisions that the ace director took, to avoid unnecessary tension, include not working with star actor and opting for newcomers, not to make a film without a message and make women centric movies.
