Jiiva has worked extremely hard for this film: Raju Murugan
Journalist-turned-filmmaker Raju Murugan who won many hearts with his second film ‘
The director who admitted that ‘Gypsy’ will be releasing next month recalled the experience of working on the film. “It was a wonderful experience. We have shot the film all over India, in different places including Kashmir, Kasi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Rajasthan and Goa. Apart from working on the film, it was a great personal experience on the whole.”
“Gypsy is inspired from a series that I wrote in a magazine when I was a journalist. It is based on a nomad community that travelled lengths and breadths of the country. The film is not based on that community, but the storyline is inspired from their travel. This is a film that will talk about music and love. The shoot was quite challenging. Usually it’s a difficult task to shoot in different places, from getting proper permission, the whole process is difficult, but when you are shooting a film on nomads, it becomes much more challenging to follow the travels.” he shared.
Talking about working with Jiiva and Natasha Singh, he said, “Jiiva gave a call sheet for more than 90 days. He worked extremely hard for the film. He grew his hair to change the look and learned to play guitar. He also learned horse riding. The reason I chose Natasha is because she is from Himachal Pradesh, the film required a face like that. She has already done a few albums in Hindi, though she debuts as an actor in the film. She could go onto become a good actor in the coming days.”
There have been a lot of politically driven stories and political biopics recently, talking about that he said, “Generally, my films have a political point of view. ‘Joker’ spoke about political issues, even ‘Gypsy’ will have a political message. All my films will have a political connection. Talking of political biopics, when you tell a story of successful leader, people would like to watch it. It’s not about political biopics as any biopic generally attracts people because it is interesting to know the journey of a person.”
