Nepal Cultural International Film Festival

, 2021, which was held earlier this month. The film's director tells us, "When I screened

at many international film festivals earlier, I had my doubts about if the audience there would understand the deep-rooted caste system in India. I am glad that the audience in Nepal did . This was the first film festival that I attended in person during the pandemic and it was a great experience."

The film has Semmalar Annam playing the lead and is loosely inspired by the characters in Andal Priyadarshini’s Dahanam and Leena Manimekalai’s Goddesses. Sennai had earlier bagged the award for Best Debut Feature Film at the Port Blair International Film Festival 2021 as well.
