It's been tuned to Tamil sensibilities: Lakshmi Manchu
With the Telugu version of her bilingual, Gundello Godari, already in theatres, Lakshmi Manchu is excited that its Tamil version will be hitting screens this week. 'We've made a few changes to Maranthen Mannithen to adapt it to Tamil culture and sensibilities,'
Lakshmi begins. Talking about the response the Telugu version has garnered, she says, 'I knew that the film would be critically
appreciated, but I was surprised when it opened well at the BO too.'
The actress-producer adds, 'The audience wants to break away from the monotony.

This film will be a different cinematic experience for them. When I started work on the project, I was unsure if the audience was ready for a different kind of filmmaking, but now, I have no doubts.'
Lakshmi plays a simple village belle in the film, very different from her real life persona. 'People know me as outspoken and
modern. So, it was a real challenge to pull off a village belle role. I had to portray what a regular girl goes through in her life, without making the whole act look over-the-top,' she says, 'In fact, all the actors (Aadhi, Sundeep, and Taapsee) were
thorough professionals and worked hard to get their characters right.'
Lakshmi is happy with the feedback she's received from the celebrities in K-Town, for whom she screened the film. 'Many thought that since the film is set against a real life incident, it would be more like a documentary. But they were surprised to see the film was very different from what they expected. These are people who appreciate good cinema, and I'm happy they liked our film,' she signs off.
