It was surreal to act alongside Prabhu Deva: Sakshi Agarwal
Sakshi Agarwal is happy that all her films are finally releasing this year. She says that she has been getting positive feedback from people for her performances. With a host of films in the pipeline, including Adhik Ravichandran's Bagheera, Naan Kadavul Illai with Samuthirakani and The Night, Sakshi is quite excited. She says, “While the pandemic paused our lives for over a year, I am happy to see my films getting released one after another.

All my hard work is finally paying off. Theatres, too, are seeing a good crowd and I am glad that the industry is back in action.”
With Bagheera slated to release soon, Sakshi says that she shot for the film during the pandemic. “We shot the film whenever we got permission to shoot. When Adhik told me about my role, I was pretty shocked. With so many actresses in the film, I didn’t know how he could pull it off. But each one of us has our own screen time. The role, too, is interesting. Having grown up watching Prabhu Deva master’s films, it was surreal to act alongside him. He is an inspiring co-star and helps us improvise and do better. While I didn’t get to dance with him in this film, I hope to we get to work together again someday,” says Sakshi.
In Naan Kadavul Illai, Sakshi plays the role of a cop. “We shot for this film, and The Night, during the pandemic. The Night’s shoot is over. It is a thriller film that will feature animals. It is a different genre and I did a lot of new things in this film, including fight sequences,” says the actress.
The actress has also signed another new project, titled Kurukku Vazhi. Directed by Nandha, the film also features Anu Haasan in the lead. “What happens when people take a shortcut in their lives — that’s the plot of the film. Dhruva is my co-actor in the film. I play a girl who is madly in love with him and joins him in his journey. In this film, I will be performing stunts,” says Sakshi. Snehan, Pranay and Shira are also part of the project.
With many films in her kitty, Sakshi owes a lot to Bigg Boss Tamil. “The show definitely put me on the radar again. I got a lot of offers post the show. And just when we began signing films, 2020 became the year of coronavirus,” says Sakshi, adding, “While we might get the platform, one has to work really hard to prove their mettle as an actor. My biggest competition is myself. I am a person who constantly strives to improve her craft. Today, I feel happy about where I’ve reached in the industry.”
Sakshi says that the kind of films she gets today, too, has changed. “Good filmmakers are ruling the industry today. I am offered different kinds of roles. Directors are willing to trust me by giving me lead roles. I get to play all kinds of roles. I am also happy that women are getting to play progressive roles. It feels nice,” says Sakshi. But her only dream, she says, is to be part of rom-coms. “I haven’t done a romcom before and I hope to be part of one in the future.”
