It doesn't feel like a comeback: Kavya
Kavya Madhavan feels that actresses shifting to Kollywood gives her all the more reason to stay in Mollywood
Known best for her expressive eyes, there is no doubting that Kavya Madhavan, Malayalam cinemas resident heroine, is a powerhouse of explosive talent. Her latest release, Gadamma, stands testimony to that fact.
Based on a true story, the film, which highlights the plight of Indian women who work as household help in the UAE, saw Kavya essay the role of Ashwathy, one of the women who suffers there.

Ask her if post her comeback, she has opted to stick to performance-oriented roles rather than commercial ones, and she says, I have always wanted to do performance-oriented roles every actress wants that. But, even if the film is a commercial one, I make sure that my character has substance in it, says Kavya. The actress was also seen recently in Christian Brothers in a small but substantial role.
Quiz Kavya about her comeback and she shrugs it off nonchalantly. When was I ever away for me to make a comeback? I was away from movies for just six months. There have been times when there has been a longer gap between my releases. It really doesnt feel like a comeback at all.
Being an actress from Mollywood, Kavya has consciously chosen to stay away from the trend of migrating to other film industries, barring a couple of Tamil films. Yes, most of the actresses today are moving on to doing Tamil and Telugu movies. That gives me all the more reason to stay here, she laughs. On a serious note, I started off here and I want to stay here because I am comfortable. For me, thats the most important thing. Also, I think the audiences here are hard to please. And I have done that.
Although there may not be a Tamil film on the cards anytime soon, Kavya has an interesting line-up of Malayalam releases coming up. There is the multi-starrer Chinatown, with Mohanlal, Dileep and Jayram slated for release. Then, theres a film with Akku Akbar that I am working on in addition to Ende Amma, which I committed to long ago.
