Is 'Indian 3,' Kamal Haasan and Shankar’s vigilante saga, on hold? - Reports
Reports suggest 'Indian 3,' the highly anticipated sequel to Kamal Haasan and Shankar's cult classic, is on hold. Following 'Indian 2's' poor box office performance and negative reviews, financial setbacks and the exit of their digital partner have cast doubt on the project's future. Both Kamal Haasan and Shankar are now pursuing other commitments, making the vigilante saga's completion uncertain.
The collaboration between Kamal Haasan and S. Shankar after a long gap once carried the promise of repeating cinematic history. Their earlier collaboration 'Indian', was one of the biggest cult classics in Indian cinema. When they announced the sequel, 'Indian 2', expectations were high. Fans of this iconic antihero were confident he would make an epic comeback and pave the way for the third part. But 'Indian 2' performed poorly at the box office and received negative reviews, leaving the upcoming installments without direction.

Financial setback alters the plan

Weeks after 'Indian 2's release, Shankar clarified that he would reshoot some portions of 'Indian 3' to enhance the story. However, the latest media reports indicate that Kamal Haasan is not keen on shooting for 'Indian 3' anytime soon, and the producers have shown little interest in incurring additional costs after the substantial losses they’ve already suffered. The extent of the disaster, both in terms of revenue and audience experience, has led to a reconsideration of whether it’s even possible to complete Indian 3 any sooner.

OTT exit adds to the uncertainty

As Filmibeat reports, the situation worsened due to monetary problems stemming from their digital partner, Netflix.
Presently, without any obvious OTT support and with the makers struggling with financial limits, reviving a super-production film like 'Indian 3' is almost impossible. It was supposed to be a sequel to the original, but now the script is on hold, and nobody knows how or when it will be executed.

Shankar moves towards new beginnings

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has chosen to focus on an exciting acting lineup, including the sequel to 'Kalki 2898 AD' and a much-talked-about reunion with Rajinikanth. His busy schedule is irrefutable proof of his interest. Meanwhile, Shankar is going to direct his dream project, ‘Velpari’. With both stars on diverging paths, the return of our favorite vigilante seems uncertain, making 'Indian 3' a doubtful project.
