Ilaiyaraaja recently made headlines after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, and wishes have been pouring in for him on social media. Sivaji Ganesan, the veteran actor was famous for his extraordinary on-screen performances. The late actor had acted in over 200 films. In 1982, the talented actor was selected as Rajya Sabha MP, and he served from 1982 to 1986. But his political career was not successful and hence he decided to concentrate more on cinema.

Veteran actress Vyjayanthimala started her cinema journey in Tamil, and then shifted her focus to Bollywood to become a popular Indian actress. She was elected to Indira Gandhi's Congress Party as the Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha in 1980. She was active in politics and succeeded two times as Loksabha MP by defeating her opposition by huge margins.

Rekha, the daughter of veteran actor Gemini Ganesan started her cinema journey with Telugu cinema. In 2012, Rekha was selected by the Congress government as the Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha along with Sachin Tendulkar and several others.

Popular screenplay writer and director SS Rajamouli's father Vijendra Prasad has now been selected as a Member of Parliament at Rajya Sabha. He along with three others from the South were directly selected by the President of India.
