Ilaiyaraaja to compose music for a Ramarajan film after 23 years

Actor Ramarajan was acclaimed as ‘Makkal Nayagan’ by his diehard fans during 80s and 90s for his successful entertainers, which were critically acclaimed and commercially successful. He won the hearts of audiences for his rural entertainers with his natural performances.
During the 45 years of his film career, he has acted only in lead characters, and the actor is now making his comeback on the big screen, by playing the protagonist in the movie ‘Saamaniyan’.
Radha Ravi and MS Bhaskar are playing important characters alongside him in this movie.
Filmmaker R Rahesh of ‘Thambi Kottai’ & ‘Maraindhirundhu Paarkum Marmam Enna’ fame is helming this project.
Saamaniyan has now got the golden touch through the inclusion of Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, who has been signed to compose music for this movie.
Both Ramarajan and Ilaiyaraaja have been a successful combo and have a series of blockbuster movies under their collaboration. In fact, Ilaiyaraaja has been the backbone in bringing success to many of the actor's movies.
With Ramarajan making his comeback after many years, what else could be the best attraction for his movie than the musical score of the maestro?
The actor personally met music director Ilaiyaraaja. "It was a casual meeting, in which Ramarajan spoke about his comeback and requested Raaja sir that it would be nice if he composes music for this film, for which the Isaignani instantly agreed," a press statement from the film's team informs.
The last time both Ramarajan and Ilaiyaraaja worked together was for the movie ‘Annan’ that was released in 1999.
Shedding lights on this new collaboration, director R Rahesh said, “After completing the script of Saamaniyan, Ramarajan sir seemed perfect for the lead character. The reason is that the audiences and film lovers always consider Ramarajan sir as the best illustration as ‘Common Man’ on the big screen. Besides, this script was worthy enough for him to make his comeback. Filmmaker Gangai Amaren sir has been one among the major reasons in shaping the successful journey of Ramarajan. This meeting between Ramarajan and Ilaiyaraaja happened only because of Gangai Amaren sir, and I thank him for this great gesture."
He says that around 60% of the film’s shooting has already been completed. "Ramarajan, MS Bhaskar and Radharavi have delivered outstanding performances, and it is indeed a blessing for me to direct them together," adds the director.
Reputed cinematographer Ravi Varman has penned the lyrics for a song while lyricist Snehan, too, has written a song.
