She has won her first Nandi Award for Best Actor (Female) and that too, for Sri Rama Rajyam, a film thats close to her heart. Needless to say, Nayanthara is thrilled beyond words. An elated Nayan says, Working on Sri Rama Rajyam has been a magical, divine experience. This is one film I will never forget in my life. It feels great to bag one of the most prestigious awards for playing Sita Devi.
Doing justice to Sita was a huge responsibility. And, Im happy people accepted me in that character.
Nayan says this couldnt have been possible without the support of actor Balakrishna, producer Sai Babu and director
Bapu. Bala sir is the one who convinced me to do the film. And, Sai Babu
garu had immense faith in me. For Bapu sir, making the
Ramayana is as precious as his life. For him, Sita is not just another character. He stood by me when people were opposed to me playing Sitamma. People were questioning him how he could get a commercial heroine to play a character as divine as Sita. But he never relented, she says.
So, is she game to play Sita again? Yes, I will. I connect to Indian mythology and I am ready to take up the role of any mythological character that comes my way, she smiles.
Quiz her if her approach towards commercial cinema has changed after doing a critically-acclaimed film, and she says, Ive been in the industry for close to nine years now, and I have understood that commercial films turn an actor into a star. But, I make sure I choose movies that are commercial, but, at the same time, give me scope to perform. Even if I appear for a short duration, I want my character to have some prominence. Its not always necessary to only do a female-oriented or an author-backed film. Its just important to do good films that help you grow as an actor.
