I learnt the Cuddalore slang for my role in Mathi’s film: GV Prakash

GV Prakash says he looks for a challenge in every film he signs. In Mathi Maran’s

, it was not just about playing a student broker but was also about learning the Cuddalore slang, a first for the actor-musician.

“Mathi and I go back a long way. We’ve known each other for the past 10 years or so. When he came up with this script, it gave me a feel of The Wolf Of Wall Street. Of course, there are no similarities story-wise, but the broker portion gave me those vibes. He told me my character is from Cuddalore and that I should learn the slang. That sort of sparked my interest in the film. We’ve seen so many slangs being used in Tamil cinema, like Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai... but this was different. Mathi and his assistant director are from Cuddalore, and they taught me the diction and body language. Every place has its unique way of presenting things, right? So preparing for this role gave me a rush,” says Prakash.

The experience of working on this film, too, was different, he says. “It was a fast film to work on. We just took one or two takes. Only the preparation part took time; shooting happened at a fast pace. We shot mostly during the lockdown, with limited crew members. Since Mathi knew what exactly he wanted from us, it was easy,” he adds.
This action-thriller was also shot mostly in live locations. “I like shooting in live locations. You meet a lot of people, your shots are better and everything falls in place organically. I feel it makes a huge impact on the output,” he signs off.
