In an industry largely dominated by masala and comic fare comes Thanga Meenkal, which tells the story of a daughter and her father. We tell you why you should watch this interestingly-titled film'Performances to watch out for While director Ram himself plays the lead character, Sadhana plays his daughter in the film. It seems that the filmmaker was keen on other actors playing the role initially but it was producer Gautham Menon who wanted him to play it.
'After Ram narrated this story for me, for about two and a half hours, it moved me to tears ' happy tears, if you could call it that. He didn't want to act but I felt that because he didn't have any baggage as an actor, he'd provide a fresh look to the film,' states Gautham.
A musical sojourn The team has often stressed that Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs and background score will be one of the highlights of the film. Ask Yuvan about it and he says, 'For director Ram, I can't sit and work in the regular musical format of pallavi-anupallavi. I have to think out-of-the box all the time. That was the case with the music of
Katradu Tamizh and it's the same with
Thanga Meenkal as well. So, I worked a lot on tunes and that's why the music will stand out.' The
Ananda Yazhai song has come in for much praise from the music fraternity and the 'Ilaiyaraaja kind of flavour' that Yuvan brings out in the score is something to watch out for.
Not overly melodramatic There've been many dad-daughter stories told on screen before, but
Thanga Meenkal hopes to appeal without being overly melodramatic. The film promises to showcase a lot of beautiful moments and many small characters that will stand out, irrespective of their on-screen time.
