Bala's directorial 'Pithamagan' starring Vikram and Suriya in lead roles was released in 2003, and the film received a great response. The 2003 Tamil film 'Pithamagan' was made on a budget of Rs 13 crores, but the film failed to develop into a profitable venture as it resulted in a Rs 50 lakh loss. If reports are to be believed, Bala, Vikram, and Suriya received a remuneration of Rs 1.25 crore, 1.15 crore, and Rs 5 lakh respectively.
'Pithamagan' producer VA Durai is now struggling with his medical expenses and requested cinema stars to help him financially. VA Durai is diagnosed with diabetes, and his financial status is unstable. The producer in one of his interviews recalled how Rajinikanth had once helped him with Rs 51 lakh. He further added that he received help from the superstar when he worked as an executive producer for the actor's fantasy drama 'Baba' and expressed gratitude towards the actor.
After VA Durai's video requesting help for his medical treatment went viral on social media, Suriya came first to help his 'Pithamagan' producer and handed over cash of Rs 2 lakh for his initial treatment. Rajinikanth also then came in as a support for VA Durai and contacted the latter through a phone call to assure help for him.
