Having one teen is difficult enough; having two is double trouble: Laila
On Mother’s Day, today, actress Laila speaks to us about raising two teenage boys, staying grounded through motherhood, and why she hardly posts about her children on social media. Excerpts:
‘TEENAGERS ARE ALWAYS BUSY, BUT MY SONS STILL MAKE TIME FOR ME’I never remember Mother’s Day, but my sons — Darian (19) and Keyan (16) — always do. Darian is very practical. He keeps saying Mother’s Day is just something greeting card companies created to make money. But still, every year, the boys get me a cake. Teenagers are always too busy for their parents, but my kids still find time to celebrate the day very sweetly. Our equation is very cute. My eldest is currently studying abroad, while the younger one is in Class 11. I intentionally don’t post much about them on social media. My account is professional, and I prefer keeping it that way.
‘BEING A MOTHER CHANGES YOUR ENTIRE PERSPECTIVE. IT’S THE HARDEST AND MOST REWARDING JOB’Motherhood is the hardest and most rewarding job. It’s a lot of emotions from the day you know that you’re having a baby till the end of your days. Having one teenager is difficult enough. Having two is double trouble. But all their achievements feel like rewards to you. It’s impossible to describe being a mother. You’re constantly worrying about your child and thinking of their welfare. It’s a joy and unless you’ve experienced it yourself, you can’t explain it. It changes your perspective of life and makes you more selfless.
ON WHAT BEING A MOM HAS TAUGHT HER...Motherhood teaches you a lot of patience. Every day is a journey. You’re always learning about how to guide your child and bring them up. While they have their own personalities, you can only hope your guidance helps. You just hope that you’re a good parent. You’re molding a person and it’s quite a responsibility. I’ve become more responsible and grounded after becoming a mother.
